Math Date: 15/08/2009
Day: Thursday
Students present: Solomon, samuel , Boni
Teacher: Jimmy
Subject: Math
Topic: Trigo( 2nd lesson)
Concept taught:More examples on R formulae , addition formulae , product formulae.(A2.13,2.14,,2.15,2.17,A2.7,eg.2A(3,4,5(ii),6,8(iii))
Comments on student: Boni knocked her head onto one of the book shelf which results in her emotions becoming unstable. We carried on with the lessons. All were able to prove lhs=rhs for eg 2.13.Revised with them ATSC once more. They tried A2.14 and realised that the order in the addition of sin is important .Tried q4 on page 393 n were able to reduce the 2 trigo functions into a single trigo function using the R formula. They proceeded to solve the equation for x using what they have been refreshed on ASTC. Went on to prove 5(ii).Solomon was able to develop left hand side and right hand side til they reaches a consensus.Explained to them that they will still score some marks if they do it this way but not full. All 3 later realised that it can be solved by changing the cot into cos and sin functions on the right hand side.Went on to do question 8(iv) , able to do it confidently:)
Improvement: Boni needs to practise more.Solomon still needs to restyle his presentation.Samuel 's improving fast.

Day: Thursday
StudentsPresent: Solomon, samuel , Boni

Subject: Math
Topic: Trigo
Concepts taught:Reference angle , pythagorean theorem , addition forumlae, product formulae, R formulae,.
Comments on students:Explained to them that cos(2x+67.38) can be varied which leads to a corresponding change in F(x).In a way we can find out the max and min value of f(x). Samuel and Solomon was able to digest this concept. Boni took quite some time to sink in.· Proceed on to try A2.11.All of them were stucked initially. Explained on white board that one must first simply the equation to only non -power trigo functions. Zoomed in on how to simplify 4sin2xcos2x and 6 sin square2x to sin and cos function only. Proceed on to apply R formula. Solomon and Samuel was able to adjust the resultant R formula to the final question. Went on to illustrate on the usage of product formulae on question A2.15.3 of them knows where to look for from the formula list. Samuel was able to do this question. His only problem lies in his messy hand writing which not only affects his overall presentation but also his judgement on the flow of work· Went to do egA2.2 Hinted to them the initial approach of drawing the triangle. Solomon and Samuel was able express to work out the answer.
Improvement: samuel's handwriting can improve his overall presentation and his own judgement.

Math Topic: Ratio and propotion.
Concepts taught:· Ratio and proportion and also "D=SXT."
Comments on students: Susan and NoeNoe were lagging in comparison to Henry , Michael and William. I explained with diagrams on the whiteboard so as to show every one once and for all the clear method of doing this question. Went on to try q 11 on page 27.Most of them can’t do this question so I went on to explain and reveal 50 percent on the answer. Most of them now became restless and were complaining that they can’t think any more. Only Michael was able to absorb and carry on with the question.
Improvement:Explore on related questions on distance speed and time so to visualise the usefulness algebra in this question.
Home work distributed: (pg21(q22.),pg13(q5b),pg15(9).

Topic: Picture Desciption (Oral)
Concepts taught: Sentence Construction/Composition Writing
Students were given different pictures. Each was given time to discuss - what the picute is about; what do they think of the picture and how they feel of the picture.
An activity was also made by letting the students go down the hostel, gather the facts that they are assigned to and make an essay.
The class was divided into 2: Class A - Susan, William and Carl; Class B - Henry; Michael and Noe Noe
Comments:
Students were attentive during class. They were serious with their assigned task. No student from either Class A or B reached the given time of five minutes. Class A students tend to depend on the promting from the teacher. Class B students were satisfactory.
Improvement points of students:
Students need to be mre imaginative and should learn how to express their imaginations more in words. Improvement on vocabulary is also recommended as they tend to use common and easy words. Students need to improve on their sentence construction also.
Homework:
Journal - cut an article; make a summary of the chosen article and reflections.
Class A - summary of 250 words; Class B - summary of 150 words
Novel - students were given a novel to read; different novel for each class and for Carl.
Students are to give summary every English class, at least five chapters of the novel.
